Naveen Wadhwa, Deputy General Manager at Taxmann.com, said:
There can be a situation where a person has been allotted a PAN but he/she has not linked it with his Aadhaar yet. If such a person quotes his/her Aadhaar number instead of PAN, then it may be assumed as an application for allotment of PAN and a new PAN will be allotted to him. It will result in violation of the principles prescribed under section 139A(7), i.e., a person cannot hold more than one PAN and a penalty under section 272B of Rs 10,000 will be levied.
