1. Introduction
CA Final examination is the last and the most difficult leg of Chartered Accountancy (CA) course where sheer determination and perseverance of the student is tested on almost every other ground. For most of the students, this stage becomes one of the most challenging phases during CA journey as they are expected to manage their studies along with the two years of mandatory practical training. One of the most crucial parts of CA Final studies is the last few months of study period which not only tests one’s patience but requires a student to make proper plans and act accordingly. Some points to ponder upon for a smooth exam preparation as well as scoring good marks are as below:
2. Preparing a Study Schedule
One should note down how, when and what to study, setting realistic goals for a week or even for a day and ensure that all the efforts are directed to achieve them. CA Final exam preparation is 30% planning and 70% execution. So, it is pertinent to give enough time for planning things properly.
3. Study Materials to Refer
The very first step for a student to actually begin the CA Final preparation is making a choice of appropriate study material which not only covers the entire syllabus but is also easy to understand. Accordingly, a student always prefers the material which is exclusively prepared keeping in mind CA Final examinations with a student-centric approach. One should try to prepare summaries of the topics studied in a concise manner so as to ease the process of revision and reduce the time required for revising a subject. It is suggested that for clearing CA Final exams, a student should aim to revise each subject for at least two to three times. Emphasis should be given on covering maximum number of previous exam questions besides the questions from ICAI issued Revision Test Papers. 5. Mock Tests
Undergoing mock tests is a great way to assess one’s preparation level and identify areas where one needs to improve. This will also help in understanding the answer pattern to be followed in the exam. In a professional examination like this, time management plays an important role which can be learned while appearing for such mock tests.
6. Quoting of Section Numbers or Definitions
Definitions are important for scoring good marks and it will make the introduction better in any answer attempted. Further, it is an added advantage to write the relevant section numbers, especially in a subject of law, as some marks are usually allotted for quoting correct section numbers. Accordingly, students should focus on remembering those section numbers as well as important definitions in order to present appealing answers in the examinations.
7. Covering Amendments
One should study each subject in its entirety before jumping on to its amendments. It is suggested that any amendment should be incorporated in the notes or study material itself and try not to maintain a separate notebook for amendments. Amendments are not to be studied in isolation. For major amendments (running into more than one page), one can use separate pages and attach those in their study material.
While there is no surefire technique to master one of the most difficult examinations, a well-thought-out strategy and appropriate study material is the key to success. Accordingly, all the aforesaid guidelines would serve a CA student in a great way to prepare for the CA Final exams, and help him/her plan and utilise the time in the most effective manner for understanding the subject matter as well as scoring good marks.
