FAQ 6. What are the Passing Criteria for CMA Examinations?
CMA Foundation:
-
- Minimum 40% marks in each subject alongwith an overall aggregate of at least 50% marks.
For instance, if a candidate scores 40 out of 100 marks each in all the four papers, his/her overall aggregate would be 160 marks; however, the second condition that needs to be fulfilled in order to pass in CMA Foundation is that the overall aggregate should be at least 50% viz. 200 out of 400 marks. So, even if the candidate has cleared in all the four subjects individually, the overall aggregate criteria would not permit him/her to clear the CMA Foundation Exam.
CMA Intermediate/ Final:
-
- Minimum 40% marks in each paper of group alongwith an overall aggregate in all the non-exempted papers of that group of at least 50% marks.
For instance,
Paper 1 | Paper 2 | Paper 3 | Paper 4 | Total of Group I | Paper 5 | Paper 6 | Paper 7 | Paper 8 | Total of Group II | Grand Total |
50 | 45 | 42 | 40 | 177 | 48 | 52 | 62 | 55 | 217 | 394 |
Pass | Pass | Pass | Pass | Failed Group I | Pass | Pass | Pass | Pass | Passed Group II | Passed Group II |
Thus, even if the candidate has cleared in all the four Papers individually in Group I, the overall aggregate criteria of at least 50% marks viz. 200 out of 400 marks would not permit him/her to clear the particular group.
FAQ 7. Does passing criteria remain the same in case of subsequent attempts?
Yes, a minimum 40% in each paper along with 50% aggregate of all the papers attempted shall make a candidate clear his/her exams.
For Instance, if a candidate earns exemption in two papers with 70 and 80 marks respectively in a group (comprising 4 papers), then in the next attempt, for the remaining two papers, he/she has to score at least 40 in each paper as well as at least 100 out of 200 marks to satisfy the minimum aggregate 50% criteria.
