Customs Duty Exemption

For the purpose of overhauling the Customs Duty structure, around 80 outdated exemptions were eliminated last year. The Hon’ble Finance Minister, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, announced in the Budget Speech, 2021 that more than 400 old exemptions will be reviewed during the year through extensive consultations.

For further review, the Government has identified certain Customs exemptions and recently, invited suggestions from the public at large to give pertinent views on the same.

The suggestions may include providing the reason for the review of such notification, amendment in the wording of the notification for bringing clarity, consolidation, other relevant factors such as the extent of use, etc. The suggestions can be submitted in the prescribed format which also includes providing justification of the suggestions one is submitting.
